The Importance Of CNC Machine Maintenance

Compared with the other tasks of running a successful machine shop, the maintenance of CNC machine may seem like a tedious chore. When a machine fails, the business owner may have to pay thousands of dollars, including not only the cost of repairing the failure, but also the loss of profit. In those moments of irritation, missing maintenance can be maddening. Due to a large number of mechanical moving parts and high-tech components, failures are inevitable. However, a consistent short-term checklist and long-term prevention plan can help reduce the risk of costly shutdowns.

Daily maintenance of CNC machine

These are "Apples a Day" to keep your CNC machine away from the machine emergency room. They sound simple, and they are. Doing a few small checks at the end of each day or shift can help catch the problem before it snowballs to a big crash.

Check these liquids. CNC machine tools need sufficient liquid level, such as lubricating oil and hydraulic oil. Working with your machine every day will give you a good baseline as to how quickly the fluid needs to be refilled. When the machine starts to use fluid at a higher speed, check your machine. Excessive fluid usage can be a sign of a problem.

Grease them. Grease is a smooth operator that keeps all working parts moving and grooving. Not all machine factories need to check grease spots every day, but we recommend checking all moving parts for dry areas. A quick dose of grease can greatly help reduce unnecessary wear and tear.

Start over with Rag. Wipe clean all the surfaces and show a little light by removing dirt from the shop. Wiping the machine every day can also prevent smaller metal shavings from accumulating in easily damaged places-such as the way the lid is sealed.

Spring cleaning for milling machines and lathes

When thoroughly cleaning the spring of the milling machine:

Ensure that the housing of the machine tool is clean and completely remove the chips from the lower track cover and ballscrew area. Basically, perform a comprehensive cleanup!

Check that all lubricants are at normal levels and function normally.

Make fine adjustments to the automatic tool changer (if necessary) so that it can continue to change tools perfectly, without hanging up or clogging.

Complete a thorough inspection of the spindle and spindle drive system to ensure that there are no contaminants that will affect the overall life of the spindle.

Check the tension, oil, chips and wear of the spindle belt to avoid unnecessary or untimely shutdowns and to avoid damaging parts during the cutting process.

It is recommended to perform a ball test to check the roundness and alignment of the machine plane.

When performing a thorough spring cleaning of the lathe:

Point out the alignment of the turret, tailstock and headstock of the lathe to ensure the best accuracy and tool life.

Check that all lubricants are at normal levels and function normally.

Perform fine-tuning of the turret (if necessary) to avoid hangs, jams or indexing issues.

Check the hydraulic system for dirt and contamination.

Check the actuator for chip accumulation.

Check the tension, wear and overall condition of the spindle belt to avoid unnecessary or untimely shutdowns and to avoid damaging parts during the cutting process.

Perform a ballbar test to check for accurate roundness and alignment in the XZ plane.
